Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Dogs
Many things can contribute to inflammatory bowel disease in dogs. However it can be hard to pinpoint any one cause or combination of causes that leads to IBD. Common causes include:
- Food allergies
All dogs are susceptible to getting IBD, but the breeds that are most commonly diagnosed are German shepherds, shar-peis, soft-coated wheaten terriers and basenjis.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Cats
If a cat is showing symptoms that include vomiting, diarrhea and malabsorption, the kitty could have inflammatory bowel disease. If left untreated, inflammatory bowel disease in cats can lead to more serious health problems such as intestinal lymphoma -- cancer.
IBD in felines is a reaction to food, parasite antigens or bacteria in the gastrointestinal region. There are three types of IBD in cats: Lymphocytic-Plasmacytic Enterocolitis, Eosinophilic Enterocolitis and Granulomatous (Regional) Enteritis.
